Let's Get Smarter!

Longing for a healthier brain?

Good habit = Good brain

Yes, it seems common to many people, but the only way to have a healthier brain that functions well is just by changing your habits into a good one. Let's try on these simple habits and believe me, you will be amazed with the result.

1. Say NO to CIGARETTES!

Yes, smoking does bring damages to our body and our brain as well. It happens because it constricts the arteries that transport oxygen to our body and BRAIN. This will eventually causes the brain to have a poor intellectual development. According to a scientific study made by researchers at the University of Edinburgh, those who smoke performed worse in an IQ tests

2. Don't STRESS yourself

Don't easily get yourself into stress because it definitely not good for our brain. This is because, when our stress hormone levels remain consistently high, our stress hormone called cortisol can actually damage a part of our brain called the hippocampus, thus, making our brain defective. So, figure out our own ways of dealing with stress including spending precious time with family and friends or having our preferable hobbies-now!

3. Eat MORE NUTRIENTS!

There's an old adage saying that 'You are what you eat' and in order to have a healthier brain, just change your eating habit-eat more nutrients. Nutrients that enhance brain function include Vitamin B which is found in broccoli, citrus fruits, soybeans and other dark leafy vegetables. Besides that, eat more cold-water fish like tuna and salmon which contain Omega-3 fatty acids

4. Let's BREATHE fresh air!

Scientifically, the largest consumer of oxygen in our body is our brain. Although it only weighs about 2% of our body mass, but incredibly it consumes over 20% of oxygen we intake. So, the more fresh air we breathe, the more oxygen that gets into our brain cells. This will bring greater clarity to the brain and resulting on greater brain efficiency. So, we can think even well than we could before!

5. Avoid HEAD-COVERING while sleeping

I admit that I usually do this while I'm sleeping but actually it does not good for our brain. This is because, when our heads are being covered by pillows, it actually increases the concentration of carbon dioxide and decreases the concentration of oxygen that gets into our lungs. This bad habit will eventually leads to brain damage. I swear I'll never cover up my head again while sleeping after this.

6. Get a GOOD SLEEP

Our brains are not machines because it needs rest and the only suitable time for our brain to rest is when we have a good sleep. Why I said that a good sleep contributes to a healthier brain? This is because, sleeping is the time when our memory tries to consolidate and therefore improves our memory. So, make sure we have enough sleep of 7 to 8 hours per night.

7. EXERCISE!
For those of you who still deny this, EXERCISE does help in having better mental health. It is because; regular exercise increases the amount of oxygen that gets into our brain. Consequently, our brain will produce more chemicals that boost intelligence. Pretty amazing right? So, get your shoes now and do anything that makes our heat pumping!

"The brain gives the heart its sight. The heart gives the brain its vision"- Kall

I have shown you these simple habits that can lead to a healthier brain and why don’t you give yourself a try on this. Believe me; YOU’LL NEVER REGRET~ Good Luck!

Are You Afraid of the Dark?

Do you want your eyes to be like this??
Our eyes are the most important organ in our body and thus, we should pay more attention to our eyes. If not, we  might end up losing our sight forever. As a student, we deal a lot with books and computers and we might suffer from tired and irritated eyes. So, today I will share some tips on how to maintain our perfect eyesight by simply following these simple steps.

1. Every morning after waking up, close our eyes and simply sprinkle water on them for about 10 to 15 minutes. This is helpful as it will energize our eyes. But remember not to sprinkle on hot water to our eyes!

2. Do you know that constipation weakens our eyesight? Yes, another shocker, but it is proven to be true! So, from now on, make sure to eat a lot of fiber such as vegetables and fruits and drink lots of water in order to avoid constipation and thus, maintains our eyesight.

3. Another way of maintaining our perfect eyesight is through PALMING. All we need to do is to rub our palms for about 35 seconds, close our eyes and place our warm palms onto our eyes. Constant eye palming helps to reduce eye strain and improves our vision.

4. Blink our eyes more often! Yes, it is the simplest way to maintain our eyesight. So, make sure to blink our eyes every 2-4 seconds. Blinking is the best natural treatment for our eyes as it nourishes and cleanses our eyes. Let's blink!

5. If we want to improve and maintain our eyesight, let's try on making COLESLAW-made from shredded cabbages and carrots. These two are best known as natural source of Vitamin A. Vitamin A is ESSENTIAL for good eyesight. So, let's eat them raw!

6. Exercise our eyes regularly! Yes, besides reduces eye strain, it helps to maintain our eyesight. All we have to do is:

7. Last but not least, we can try on this traditional way of maintaining our eyesight. Simply put one drop of honey on each eye once a week to our eyes. Yes, I bet that it may irritates our eyes, but it has the power to clean our eyes. Try on!

Get Weaponed Up!

In every education system, there is going to be tests or exams that serve the purpose of evaluating the students' performances academically. Whether we like it or not, we should do some preparations when the exams are just around the corner in hope that everything will be going smoothly in the exam hall. So, today I would like to share some DO's and DON'Ts before the exams so that the students will be more prepared.

DO's
1. Get enough sleep

According to the American Sleep Disorders Association, the average teenagers who are students need around 9.5 hours of sleep per night. However, it has become a habit for students nowadays to sleep late at night and this is not good for our brain as well as our body. This is because, long term sleep deprivation will accelerate the death of our brain cells! Thus, in order to avoid from having difficulty waking up in the morning or falling asleep during the exams, we must get enough sleep before the exams.

2. Drink plenty of plain water

It is recommended that we should drink at least 8 glasses of plain water a day. And why is that so? It IS important because plain water allows for the smooth transportation of oxygen to our cells including brain cells, thus making our brain more active. Eventually, when our brain is active, it would be easier to understand, focus and memorize our notes before the exams.

3. Revision through flashcards

Flashcards are one of the most effective memorization tools. So, before the day of our examinations, we can reduce our summary notes into bullets, mind mapping, formulas and even diagrams and place them onto a card for each topic. Since flashcards act as memory triggers, it can automatically enhance our ability to recall larger bits of information. So, we can simply carry the the cards with us as it is portable and have final reviews of the flashcards before entering the examination hall.

4. Eat breakfast!

Many of the students ignore their breakfasts even though they know that breakfast is a very important meal. Yes, it is important as it helps us to kick start the day with full energy especially before going into the examination hall. Take note that a healthy breakfast will help our brains to keep up during long examinations without getting brain-tired. BUT, remember to not consume any milk before the exams as it will make us sleepy.

DON'Ts

1. Avoid cramming before the exams

Cramming also known as mugging refers to the practice of studying intensively to absorb large amount of information in a short amount of time-a day before examinations. This act will lead to the rise of stress level and consequently causes us to feel panic. Thus, our revision should be completed ahead of time so that we have plenty of time to read all the topics for the exams.

2. Don't study for long hours

I know that when the exams are just around the corner, we will focus and start doing our revision. But we should NOT study for a long period of time without TAKING A BREAK. Remember that our brain are not machines and even studies prove that an average person can only concentrate for not more than 50 minutes. So, give ourselves a break after a long hard work of study~!

3. Don't panic!
Most of us will feel panic when they think that they still have tonnes of topics that yet to be revised a day before the examinations. At this moment, there is no use of trying to add on extra information as our brain might not able to process and restore it. So, keep ourselves calm and try to consolidate our existing knowledge rather than trying to put as many new information as we can and end up forgetting everything.

~ "In examinations, the foolish ask questions the wise cannot answer." ~Oscar Wilde

So, I hope that my tips would be useful for all of us and I wish all of you out there GOOD LUCK!
